Honoring Sister Agatha Meister

Sister Agatha Meister 1929-2011

The staff of Saint Mary’s Foundation and all our mission programs honor the life of Sister Agatha Meister, who passed away on July 19, 2011. We are saddened by the loss of our dear Sister, and know she has found peace after her journey with lung cancer.  She is pictured (left) at Saint Mary's Gala in November 2010.

In the words of Sister Mary Kieffer:

Born at Saint Mary's in 1929 and raised in Reno, Sister Agatha (born Linda Christine Meister) joined the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael in 1948 and spent most of her teaching career in the Bay Area, Sister Agatha taught first grade and special education for 49 years. She returned to her home town in 1999 and immediately started volunteering at Saint Mary's, first on the Kids-to-Seniors Korner vans, and then for the Spiritual Care Department in the hospital. Many remember the kindly six-foot tall sister who sat at the desk on 3S near the A elevators who directed people and called stranger and friend alike, "Honey." Sister Agatha will be greatly missed by her community and all who knew her.
