May 28, 2010
Saint Mary's Hospice was chosen as a beneficiary of funds raised by local elementary school children through a year-long project in their classrooms. At an assembly on May 28, a check was presented to Saint Mary's Hospice. Dr. Kelle Brogan (left, purple shirt) was in attendance to thank the students and to answer questions about hospice.
Fourth grade students at Caughlin Ranch Elementary School spent the school year studying non-profit organizations in the Truckee Meadows and the ways in which they benefit our community. Each student wrote an essay on one non-profit that is important to them personally, and the students voted on the top five essays. Throughout the year, students also collected donations, which were divided among the organizations featured in the five winning essays. Other organizations chosen to benefit this year include Restart, Nevada Humane Society, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and Evelyn Mount.
On behalf of the Saint Mary's Foundation and the Hospice program, thank you to Ms. Winters and the fourth grade students at Caughlin Ranch Elementary.
