Saint Mary's is a new WIC provider in Washoe County providing multiple locations, non-traditional hours and additional benefits for clients beyond the traditional WIC nutrition services.
WIC is a nutrition program that offers families with young children free health food, nutrition education, resource referral and much more. The average WIC client receives more than $40 per participant each month in healthy food including cheese, milk, cereal, dry beans and juice.
Saint Mary's launched this exciting program in January 2005. Utilizing the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile and four fixed clinics, Saint Mary's provides WIC services to low or moderate income pregnant or postpartum women, infants and children in their neighborhoods.
The state-of-the-art Care Mobile was donated by Ronald McDonald House Charities to underscore McDonald's concern for children's health. The Care Mobile is a major step in Saint Mary's Mission Outreach, working in collaboration with others to help children and families receive needed care.
Like other Saint Mary's programs, the Saint Mary's WIC program goes beyond by providing additional services and much needed care to our clients, including:
- Free dental care for children without dental insurance
- Free dental care for pregnant women, which has significantly decreased the incidence of low-birthweight and premature infants
- Farmers Market coupons that can be redeemed for fresh and local produce
- Low cost infant car seats for pregnant women
- Transportation assistance to WIC appointments
Saint Mary's WIC offers numerous locations and non-traditional hours for your convenience. For more information, please call (775) 770-7500.
