Question: What does the Foundation do?
Answer: Saint Mary's Foundation is an independent nonprofit charitable 501(c)3 organization. Its purpose is to develop resources, involvement, partnerships and awareness for Saint Mary's and its programs.
Question: How is the Foundation governed?
Answer: The Foundation is led by a board of trustees comprised of community volunteers, Saint Mary's President, a representative of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael and Saint Mary's Foundation President.
Question: Who contributes to the Foundation?
Answer: The Foundation receives support from individuals, businesses, public and private foundations and government sources.
Question: Why does Saint Mary's need the money?
Answer: Saint Mary's mission is to provide quality care for the entire community, with special attention to underserved populations. Saint Mary's chooses to provide area residents with a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art medical services (even those that don't produce revenue).This commitment, coupled with reductions in governmental and insurance reimbursements, compel Saint Mary's to seek community support. Donor generosity allows Saint Mary's to maintain its margin of excellence as the region's premier medical provider and to continue its promise of furnishing the finest health care for everyone in our region.

How is the Foundation's budget funded? (How does 100% of my gift go to programs?)
Answer: In order to ensure the maximum impact of donor contributions, the Foundation's expenses are borne by Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. Thus, 100% of a charitable contribution goes to support the program or service of the donor's intent.

What do donors give to?
Answer: Most donors choose to direct their contributions to one or more specific areas. Donations may be designated to benefit specific departments at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center (e.g. cardiac, oncology, maternal/child health), mission-based community programs (e.g. Take-Care-a-Vans, Neighborhood Clinics), or Saint Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada. Significant donations may also be planned with the donor's input for a particular program, purpose or expense.

How and when is a contribution used?
Answer: Contributions are accounted for in specific development funds that are utilized as needs arise in the area specified by the donor. In the interim, funds are invested to guarantee the greatest amount is available when needed.
Question: What events does the Foundation sponsor?
Answer: Saint Mary's Foundation produces or assists in several annual events, including the a Board Appreciation Dinner (September), Guild Clay Shoot (September), and an annual Gala (November).

Are there ways to get involved?
Answer: Community involvement is a long-held tradition at Saint Mary's.There are volunteerism opportunities through the medical center, the Foundation, Hospice programs and Saint Mary's Guild.
Question: What ways are there to give?
Answer: Contributions come via grants; donations of cash, stock and property; event attendance; planned and estate giving; and endowments. We also accept donations of new items for babies and children patients in our pediatrics and emergency departments (new plush toys, blankets, art materials, games and DVDs are good examples).

Are there other benefits to giving?
Answer: Saint Mary's Foundation recognizes donors for both annual and cumulative giving with events, publications, education naming opportunities and displays at the Regional Medical Center. In addition, the Foundation's Heritage Society recognizes donors who have made planned and estate gift commitments. All contributions to the Foundation are tax-deductible.
